Adoption Information Covered

SET UP β€” Basic items needed including food, bowls, litter/trays/scoops, beds, scratching posts, toys, etc.
FOOD β€” Discount provided with adoption, why Cat Haven recommends Hills food, understanding the correct amount.
SETTLING IN β€” Understanding how to safely settle a cat/kitten into a new home. The importance of confinement in a small room for at least a week (possibly longer depending on the cat).
INTRODUCTION TO OTHER PETS/CHILDREN β€” Once the cat has settled in they must be given a slow gentle intro to young children and any other pets using recommended steps. Explained this is covered in detail in the Cat Haven Adoption Booklet available online.
VET CONSULTS β€” Two weeks free vet consults at Cat Haven Vet Clinic by appointment. Hills food condition applies.
MICROCHIP β€” What company the cat is registered with and the importance of updating details if they ever change.
VACCINATIONS β€” When the cat is next due for its vaccination. See vax card.
STERILISATION AFTERCARE β€” Advised new owner how to monitor the sterilisation site, what to look out for (licking, infection, etc.), when stitches need removing and how to book at local vet.
FLEA AND WORM TREATMENT β€” Explained the discount available at adoption and the importance of keeping both up to date.
COUNCIL REGISTRATION β€” Explained the legal requirement to register with local council and how to do it.
RETURN POLICY β€” Informed the new owner that if for any reason they can no longer keep their cat/kitten, Cat Haven will always take the cat/kitten back for rehoming. Emphasised this is a much safer option than social media or other avenues.
